Flaking is the small pieces of wood that come off the Coffee Wood as the dog chews. Since Coffee Wood is all-natural wood, it breaks down little by little during each chew session. The incredible difference of Coffee Wood than any other wood, is as the dog chews, their saliva softens the wood, causing the flaking. The small flakes become soft and bendy, allowing small amounts to pass through a dogs digestive track without issue. If larger pieces come off, we always advise pet parents to pick up and discard of those pieces. Once the Coffee Wood and pieces dry, they become hard again. Some dogs are very clever and figure out how to peel back the bark of the stick. Simply discard of those pieces so they can continue to enjoy their chew session!

Our Sheep Horns are low odor, but despite undergoing multiple, rigorous cleanings, sometimes during chewing sessions the Sheep Horns will begin to have a strong odor. This happens sometimes when the dog's saliva interacts with the Sheep Horn, because the chew is a direct animal part that contains natural protein. If the odor is too much for pet parents, we recommend outside chew sessions with the Sheep Horns. Pet parents can also wash, dry and place Sheep Horns in the freezer for a few hours to kill off the germs from the dog's saliva.
